Philippina “Pina” Bausch had a movie created by her dance company when she passed. It was more abstract than I’d expected but all the dance pieces were amazing. I saw some of the oldest and most racially diverse dancers in this film, but it was fantastic to see the maturity and quality in their movement.
The emotions were definitely intense though, on several occasions I couldn’t understand why everyone was so depressed. Guess it’s a thing about artists…

Beautiful animation by Ryan Woodward.

For one, the dance would’ve been beautiful done in real life. Also the story of chasing your dream girl only to find she can’t be as perfect in reality is told so well in this dance.

Maybe it’s a bit cheesy, but I enjoyed it anyhow.

Transition

It’s all about the transitions. You never let go of your energy, and you never let go of your core. You release the energy in your movement, then bring it back to your core before you continue. The movement never stops.

It’s about engaging all your muscles. You have to be in control of every single muscle in your body. Even the slightest move in your arm comes from your core, opens all the muscles through your shoulder to your elbow to your fingers.

It’s about feeling the density of the air. When you move you’re really moving in water. The air is so dense you can feel the effort in all your steps. Feel the density change with each action.

Therein lies the quality.
